Welcome to Simple Sparrows, the place where you will find inspiration to grow beauty from home!
In 2020 my husband Jonah and I started a little flower farm, growing and selling cut flowers from our 1/4 acre garden. Since then the farm business has looked a little different every season as we have navigated new babies, job changes and moves. In the fall 2023 we moved to a new farm where we are breaking new ground and starting our cutting garden “from scratch”.
Little by little we are growing our homestead and hope to one day farm full-time. In the meantime we are embracing a simple life, homeschooling our five children, living seasonally, and fostering creativity in our home.
I want to inspire other mamas to pursue their passions even in the midst of very full seasons of motherhood. It is my hope that my little space here would give you the nudge to add more beauty and creativity into your life as you are doing the most important work of raising your beautiful family.
I believe a garden is one of the most rewarding ways to do this. I have experienced first-hand that when we tend a garden there are countless opportunities for an encounter with the Lord, the Master Gardener. He waits for us in the garden and tends our hearts in those moments. It is powerful and the reason why I am inspired to share this with you!
I hope you will join me in cultivating a cutting garden of your own! Let’s get started!

Where this all began
In 2019 I was wandering the library after a lovely day celebrating my birthday with my dearest friends. I came across a book called The Cut Flower Garden. The End.
But seriously , this book flipped my world upside down (in the best way possible)! The world of cut flowers opened up to me and it was impossible to go back to the Kristen who didn’t know this world existed. I renewed that book over and over for the rest of the summer, pouring over the pages and taking in all the details.
My husband Jonah and I had been talking about starting to farm the land we were living on but exactly what we would farm was still up in the air. This was the idea that really stuck for me. Believe me, I tried to un-see this idea, but the pull of cut flowers had captured me. After that, I spent the rest of the summer learning about growing cut flowers and dreaming of starting our own flower farm. The following winter we took an online course on Cut Flower Farming. We had our first season in 2020.
A few years and a couple of babies later we are still at it, growing cut flowers, raising chickens, raising babies and dreaming of our farm being our full-time thing. This blog was born out of a desire to share our adventures and inspire other families to pursue their crazy dreams, even while you have young children. It isn’t an easy path, but it sure is beautiful!
